Granite Is as Great as Marble, Even Better!
THE TRUTH ABOUT MARBLE
Make no bones about it. There is no other organic stone that evokes the "I Want That" feeling like how marble makes you feel. It's just simply gorgeous! But there's a side to it that is full of stain and hard to wash away!
MARBLE MAINTENANCE ISSUES
But marble countertops are notorious for extensive maintenance. Foods and drinks that are acidic can easily stain marble countertops and leave dull spots. You would want to wipe those stains immediately or run the risk of looking at a stained countertop permanently.
However, if you still want marble countertops, or maybe marble-looking countertops, without the maintenance issues, you have a lot of alternatives.
GRANITE OPTIONS FOR MARBLE
Here we go - Casa Blanca Granite, Glacier White granite, Bianco Romano, and Beola Ghiandonata granite all look similar to white marble.
Now let's see what's all the fuss about comparing the granite that we recommend and marble. What are their similarities and differences?
WHAT IS GRANITE?
Granite is simply quarried off soil. It is an organic slab. It is a special kind of rock because it could not be excavated just from any area. It is a rock that is a result of molten rocks that are cooling down. The more cohesive granite rocks are acquired from, the deeper areas where the thermal heat is higher. This temperature is hot enough to produce the molten rocks. Then, they are leveled up to the surface, and these are the granite slabs that are being quarried.
COMPOSITION OF GRANITE
It has a composition of minerals and rocks. It has proportions of micas, quartz, amphiboles, and other minerals. These varied compositions reflect in a variety of beautiful hues and designs of granite slabs.
Granite is porous, so it needs appropriate sealing every 2 to 3 years. But it is easier to clean than marble and is sturdy enough to survive cracks and spots.
Granite's design is primarily dots and flecks. On occasion, it would also have veining patterns.
WHAT IS MARBLE?
It's a metamorphic rock sourced from either dolomite or calcite crystals that has withstood intense heat from the earth's center.
Marble is delicate and difficult to mine but has beautiful veining. They are some of the reasons why it costs more than granite.
Granite is far less costly than marble, has lesser maintenance, and looks much like marble. Granite begins at around $75 per square foot when installed, while marble countertops have prices that start at about $100 and can go above $200.
SOME EXAMPLES OF GRANITE THAT LOOKS LIKE MARBLE
CASA BLANCA GRANITE
It is quarried from a bedrock quarry in Brazil. Its other name is Glacier White. Its light gray-white color with striations make it resemble marble. Or it can be hued a more dark gray with a typical granite mottled pattern. Be sure to choose slabs that have veining effects like marble.
This is definitely a contender for a marble look alike because it has fabulous veining. It is a white and gray natural stone that is acquired from the quarries of Brazil. It's exquisite veining makes it a perfect countertop surface for any kitchen.
It looks even more marble than the granite that it is. It is typically gray but possesses a linear striation pattern, much like white marble.
WHAT GRANITE TO AVOID
Have nothing to do with Kashmir White granite. It has a nice pattern and color, but it is super porous and can be easily stained. And sealing will not often help.
DO THE STAIN AND ETCHING TEST
Be a wise granite customer. Do the lemon juice test on the granite slabs you are considering buying. This test will inform you how absorbent or how stain-prone the granite stone is and also will inform you how sensitive it is to acids.
GRANITE IS IT
Real authentic marble is pretty distinctive. If you're expecting an equal counterpart from granite, you can be disappointed. But granite has its own beauty, and the fact that it costs less and is also durable would make it a perfect marble alternative.
Granite has been used since ancient times in construction, not only on countertops. It goes to show that it has the reliability of marble but at a fraction of the cost. In fact, your granite countertop can even outlast almost all other materials that your home has.
