D2 Biological Solution | Stone Cleaner | MB Stone Care
D/2 Biological Solution is specially formulated to remove environmental pollution, dirt, and staining from biological soils such as mold, mildew, lichen, and algae from indoor and outdoor surfaces. D/2 is a Biodegradable cleaner that is pH neutral and contains no salts, bleach, or acids. It is highly effective for removing stains caused by biological growth on surfaces including marble, granite, limestone, masonry, concrete, wood, canvas, and vinyl & aluminum siding. It will not damage glass, metal, or plants.
D/2 is the only product developed for conservators by conservators. It has been successfully used to clean millions of buildings and monuments, from the White House to Arlington Cemetery. It was tested in a 6 year study and now specified by the Department of Veteran Affairs National Cemetery Administration.
After initial treatment of substrate, a once-a-year light spraying will help maintain a clean, stain-free surface.
Note: Heavy biological deposits may require repeat applications of D/2 cleaner to achieve complete cleaning after detachment. Alternatively, heavy growth can be detached by manual scraping using wooden or plastic tools immediately after application.
Coverage: Approx. 60-85 sq ft per quart
D/2 should not be used in temperatures below 45 degrees.

D/2 Biological Solution is easy to use and biodegradable and removes stains from air pollutants, lichens, mildew, algae, and mold.
It's highly effective on brick and cast stone, aluminum siding, travertine, brownstone, limestone, granite, marble, terra cotta, masonry surfaces, canvas, vinyl siding, wood, concrete, stucco, and other architectural surfaces, such as headstones, sculptures, and monuments.
If you have heavy biological deposits, you may have to repeat applications with D/2 Biological Solution to achieve complete cleaning after the detachment. Sometimes, you can use plastic and wooden tools for manual scraping. If you've experienced excessive plant exposure, it's best to rinse everything in those planted ground areas contacted by the product.
There are many reasons to use D/2 Biological Solution. These include:
The product was developed by conservators who understand the damage that acidic or salt-based cleaners can do. Many building materials cannot handle the salt or acid and deteriorate with time. Therefore, D/2 was specially formulated without those harmful agents.
It's nearly pH-neutral and features a quaternary ammonium solution and surfactants. They help to carry those surface contaminants away. No other product is as trusted by monument and architectural conservators as D/2.
D/2 has successfully been used to remove staining from various surfaces, such as masonry surfaces, canvas, aluminum/vinyl siding, wood, concrete, and natural stones (slate, sandstone, limestone, granite, marble, and travertine).
Overall, D/2 is one of the best solutions because it's proven to successfully clean millions of monuments and buildings. From Arlington Cemetery to the White House, it's trusted when the results matter.
The product is available in 32 fluid ounces and has a coverage area of about 60 to 85 square feet per quart.
You may also find these options for D/2 Biological Solution:
We offer up to 55 gallons, but for anything larger than that, you must go directly to the manufacturer.
The area treated with a gallon of D/2 varies considerably based on the extent and nature of the biological deposits and the physical characteristics of your surface. You can clean medium deposits of roughly 250 to about 350 square feet per gallon. It works best with surface temperatures of 45 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
You may have to reapply if rain occurs about 12 hours after application when using the no-scrub/rinse method.
The features of D/2 include:
Here are some of the companies and non-profit organizations that have used D/2 with success:
VA
D/2 awarded The Veterans Affairs Administration with a contract to supply its cleaner for more than 3.5 million headstones. The VA must maintain white marble headstones throughout the nation.
Overall, the National Park Service conducted a six-year study on D/2, finally recommending it to many companies and non-profit organizations because it's the best. In fact, it's the preferred cleaner to maintain the memorials of our country's fallen heroes.
Fort Wayne
A volunteer crew was given D/2 to clean stonework at Fort Wayne (the Married Officer's Quarters and Quartermaster's Office). These locations sit on the Detroit River, and the original barracks made of limestone still stand. This happened in 2017. Roughly 175 people were divided into small groups and worked with preservation professionals.
They repointed masonry, painted, performed window repairs, and handled carpentry. Masonry cleaning was also performed.
Wright House
Loren Pope was a journalist in 1939. He and his wife asked Frank Lloyd Wright to design their new home, which was finished in 1941.
Overall, the Pope-Leighey House was developed as a way to offer affordable housing to the working class. Currently, it's operated and owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It was relocated to Woodlawn Plantation. D/2 provided its cleaner to the owners to remove stains.
HOPE Crew
The National Trust HOPE crew used D/2 to clean the stonework at the Fort Wadsworth National Historic Landmark. They are part of the unique program that bridges the gap between maintenance needs and a declining workforce.
Since the HOPE crew started in 2014, it's completed many projects throughout the country. Volunteers have painted Hinchliffe Stadium in NJ, and they also fixed up buildings after Superstorm Sandy. Now, they only use D/2 because it's trusted by the top conservation specialists.
D/2 as a Presidential Executive Order
The NCA (National Cemetery Administration) uses D/2. It entered into an agreement with the NPS to evaluate the best marble cleaners to reduce damage to historic headstones. This three-phase study started in 2004 and was finished in 2011. Overall, the NCA determined that D/2 was the preferred cleaner of them all.
Chickamauga Battlefield
A six-person team with the NPS has been working with Chattanooga and Chicamauga National Military Park to clean the Civil War monuments. They're based in Frederick, Maryland, but travel around the country. They were there for three months and only relied on D/2 because it's eco-friendly and works exceptionally well.
You can also be like these companies and non-profit organizations. It's so easy to use D/2, and it works effectively without being harmful to the environment.
